Mike is an experienced licensed insolvency practitioner and qualified accountant with over 35 years corporate restructuring & insolvency experience predominantly working for top ten accounting and restructuring firms operating across London and the South Coast. Mike predominately works in the SME market helping find solutions for directors, shareholders, lenders and other stakeholders and has acquired a trusted referral base over the years. He has specific sector specialisms in the Marine, Telecoms, Care Homes, Construction, Hospitality and Manufacturing industries but has been involved in just about every type of business from Biotech companies to egg farmers, from gin producers to fishing businesses in the Falkland Islands.
Mike predominately deals with distressed business turnarounds, including sale, refinance or debt restructure where no formal insolvency appointment is required as well as taking formal insolvency appointments using the full range of corporate insolvency and restructuring tools to deal with the financial problem. Mike is also a specialist in the solvency liquidation arena helping to return capital back to shareholders tax-efficiently and has worked in both the national solvent liquidation teams of PwC and Deloitte in London.
Prior to joining Opus, other than his time at PwC and Deloitte, Mike has worked for a boutique insolvency firm on the South Coast before joining top ten firm, Forvis Mazars. In addition to Mike’s work in the restructuring arena, he has also spent time in corporate finance working on deals with household name clients including Heinz, Virgin Media and Cable & Wireless as well as a short spell on secondment at the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
Outside of work, Mike is a trustee and treasurer for a local charity that helps disabled sports fans have the best experience at sports stadiums. He’s a big football and cricket fan, he plays football and follows cricket closely. He also plays golf (not very well) and badminton. On weekends, you’ll often find Mike walking around a National Trust property with his wife or working on a DIY project at home.
