CASE STUDY Third Sector – Funding challenges for Care Centre, West Midlands
The Client
This charity operated two respite care centres in the Birmingham area but struggled to procure sufficient funding from the local authority and elsewhere, resulting in a potential threat of collapse and inability to offer any services to the vulnerable adults and children who relied on the respite care services provided.
To avoid a damaging forced closure, we worked with the trustees, CEO and senior team to run the operations for a period of three months ensuring all the vulnerable clients were cared for. This involved engaging with other potential providers in the sector and securing the safe transfer of all the vulnerable clients to new respite care facilities in the area.
The Conclusion
The winding-down process involved careful management of the staff members to ensure they were paid and motivated in the run-up to closure as well as managing PR matters as the charity’s difficulties had become widely known, leading to (often misguided) press and social media scrutiny.
