The Role
The Charity Commission appointed Charles Turner and one other as Interim Managers (IM) to this community association near Bristol. The community centre had shut down following many leadership/ trustee issues which had led to a statutory enquiry by the CC and the subsequent IM appointment.
The Conclusion
The IMs were successful in securing and managing the premises for well over a year whilst they were marketed for sale. This involved being on-site regularly and managing tenants who were operating from the premises. There were a wide variety of complications with the leasehold legal title, limitations on use and some adjoining land that was discovered to belong to the charity on a freehold basis. Eventually, sale terms were agreed which were significantly above the initial agents’ expectations of value. As part of the engagement, the IMs reported regularly to the CC and assisted the CC with its investigation.
